Under his guidance, an inter university sports festival was organized in keeping with the standards and traditions of the Olympic Games. Once in three years since then, the Sri Lanka universities have organized the SLUG festival, including the Universities of Colombo, Kelaniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Moratuwa, Ruhuna, Peradeniya and finally Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, which hosted SLUG 2016. Though the first University Games had just 12 events, through the years the number has increased to 22 sporting events in 2019.
